The Evolution of
Concrete Coatings

From Failing Epoxy to the Patent-Pending CycloSpartic™ Revolution

For decades, homeowners and contractors cycled through coating after coating — acrylics that wore out, epoxies that peeled, polyurethanes that yellowed. Each product was marketed as the solution, and each eventually failed. CycloSpartic™ was engineered to end that cycle permanently. It is not an incremental improvement. It is a new category.

The History of Concrete Coatings

What Came Before —
And Why It Keeps Failing

Every coating generation had a story. Here's the honest version of each one.

1950s – 1980s
Acrylic Sealers

The original surface coating — thin, water-based, and quick to apply. Widely adopted for residential and light commercial use due to low cost.

Known Defects & Failures
  • Worn through by traffic in 1–2 years
  • No bond to concrete — peels at edges
  • No abrasion or chemical resistance
  • Requires frequent reapplication
  • Fails in freeze-thaw Michigan winters
1960s – Present (Declining)
Epoxy Coatings

A step up in durability, epoxy became the dominant garage floor product. Its low price point and DIY availability made it ubiquitous — and its failure rate just as common.

Known Defects & Failures
  • Hot tire pickup — coating lifts off with parked car tires
  • UV yellowing within months of installation
  • Brittle — cracks as concrete shifts seasonally
  • Moisture sensitivity during application and curing
  • Peels and chips within 1–3 years
  • Multi-day cure time — floor unusable
1980s – 2010s
Polyurethane

Introduced as a solution to epoxy's UV weakness, polyurethane offered better flexibility and top-coat clarity. But it came with its own failure modes.

Known Defects & Failures
  • Moisture sensitivity during application
  • Not suitable as standalone coating — requires epoxy base
  • Solvent-heavy, strong odors during install
  • Prone to delamination from concrete movement
  • Limited abrasion resistance under heavy traffic
1990s – 2010s
Polyurea

Pure polyurea offered fast cure times and better flexibility than epoxy. Industrial applications thrived, but residential use exposed key weaknesses in standard formulations.

Known Defects & Failures
  • Extremely fast gel time — difficult to install correctly
  • Contractor skill-dependent: bad installs fail quickly
  • Standard versions lack chip adhesion over time
  • Requires specialized spray equipment
  • Color fade on lower-grade formulations
2000s – 2010s
Polyaspartic

Polyaspartic was positioned as a polyurea upgrade — longer pot life, UV resistance, and faster return-to-service. It improved upon prior systems but still fell short of the performance demanded by serious long-term applications.

Known Defects & Failures
  • Temperature-sensitive application window
  • Lower abrasion resistance than newer chemistries
  • Delamination risk on improperly prepared surfaces
  • Shorter lifespan in high-traffic industrial settings
  • Marketing hype often outpaced real-world performance
The Solution

CycloSpartic™

Patent-Pending Formulation

What Is CycloSpartic™?

CycloSpartic™ is a proprietary, patent-pending polyurea floor coating system developed by Garage Force. It is the result of years of research into the failure modes of every previous coating generation. Rather than optimizing an existing chemistry, CycloSpartic™ was engineered from the ground up to eliminate the root causes of coating failure: UV degradation, thermal expansion brittleness, moisture infiltration, and bond weakness.

The cycloaliphatic molecular structure gives CycloSpartic™ its exceptional UV resistance — it does not yellow, chalk, or fade. The cross-linked polyurea backbone delivers 20× the impact strength of standard epoxy and 3× the abrasion resistance of earlier polyaspartic systems. It cures fully within 24 hours and can be applied in Michigan winters, Michigan summers, and everything in between.

This is the only coating we install. Not because it's the only one we have access to — but because it's the only one we're willing to back with a lifetime warranty.

Performance vs. The Competition

Why CycloSpartic™ Beats
Everything Before It

20×
Stronger Than Epoxy
Impact and tensile strength tested at 20x the performance of standard epoxy systems.
More Abrasion Resistant Than Polyaspartic
Tested under industrial Taber abrasion standards. No visible wear after 10,000 cycles.
More Durable Overall
Combined impact, abrasion, and thermal cycling performance far exceeds conventional systems.
24 HR
Return to Full Service
Walk on it same day. Full vehicle traffic and chemical exposure within 24 hours of completion.
1 Day
Complete Installation
Our crew arrives, grinds, repairs, coats, and seals — all in a single day. No multi-day projects.
Year-Round
Climate-Proof Application
Formulated for cold Michigan winters and hot summers alike. No temperature window constraints.
